EB Lyner has been lucky so far, considering that neither of his parents wants custody of him. Miraculously, he hasn’t been caught tagging utility boxes or breaking into foreclosed houses in his Phoenix neighborhood. But things are about to change when he decides to trespass and enters a multi-million dollar home in nearby Scottsdale. What he doesn’t know is that the remnants of a murder are hidden in this house. Its victim is trapped in time and can only rest if EB agrees to find her killer in the ancient Roman city of Herculaneum, 78 A.D.

Haunted by a voice that keeps repeating “Expiscor quisnam iuguolo mihi” (Find out who killed me), EB agrees to let her guide him back in time.

His Latin stinks and his detective skills are even worse, but he has nothing to lose; that is of course, if he can solve this murder before Mt. Vesuvius erupts on August 24, 79 A.D. With limited time and next to no resources, EB Lyner is left doing the only thing he knows how – tag the city until he gets an answer. But will it be too late? He’s already impersonating the nephew of a wealthy landowner, unaware that the real relative is on his way to Herculaneum; and if that isn’t daunting enough, the murderer is still at large. Time is something EB does not have. His wit, humor and resolve will have to suffice.

The Last Tag eBook Ann I Goldfarb

This is a delightful story written towards teenagers but just as enjoyable for adults. I couldn 't put it down. I got so engrossed in finding out what was going to happen to EB, a time traveler, a modern skateboarding boy who is asked by a Roman girl in the year 78 AD to find out who killrd her and why. The author also includes interesting social and cultural information woven into the story. I'd recommend yhis book to anyone who loves a mystery

The Last Tag eBook Ann I Goldfarb Reviews

The action never stops, I had a hard time putting this one down! I was pulled through a time portal right along with EB! I learned a lot about the time period and culture too. I highly recommend for any age, very engaging.
I love the way the author intertwines past and present into her stories and makes history come alive. Time travel is the perfect avenue for this. The characters are well developed and the suspense keeps you turning the pages. The novel is perfectly suited for young adult readers, but even as an adult, it is an entertaining, quick read.
Seeing that this book is recommended as a high school reading, I would say it is excellent for 7-9 graders. Past that age it is still very good, but the more mature readers will probably notice some naivety in the portrayal of the main character and some general immaturity in the writer's style. Young adults, simply speaking and as it should be, are usually highly critical and demanding.

I am now well past the teenage, or the young adult age group, therefore I feel privileged to be more forgiving and less demanding. Thus. looking past the above mentioned deficiencies, I am giving the author a lot of credit for a very engaging plot, a great incorporation of the Latin language (always with immediate translations), rather accurate historical presentation of the Roman life in the 78 AD and the generous quota of words and terms that will surely enrich every reader's vocabulary,

- Plot (no spoilers) A troubled (aren't we all) high schooler stumbles upon a mystery that needs solving, to bring peace to somebody's soul. He travels to Rome, landing in the vicinity of the Vesuvius, about one year before the disastrous eruption. In his adult life our hero discovers that he managed to save more than a soul.

- Latin All phrases are immediately explained. The students of this language will get some nice opportunity to practice their vocabulary and some grammar, while those without any knowledge of Latin get a good dose of exposure, but without the obligation to remember or commit.

- Historical aspect A very painless presentation of the geographical location, architecture, social structure, culture and the daily life of Roman 'young adults' - all of these make for a very memorable, but 'oh, so easy' lesson in history, geography and even some geology.

- Vocabulary An average young reader will find some healthy dose of new words and terms that, initially explained or self-explanatory, are repeated during the plot, completely eliminating the need for dictionaries and thesaurus.

So, all ye youngsters, of all ages and genders, relax and have some fun time, reading.
I got through the first chapter and knew this book wasn't for me so I deleted it from my .
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The storyline was good, imaginative and unique. I read it in one day, as I couldn't, or at least, I didn't want to put it down. Am looking forward to Ann's next book!
